Get Rid Of Blackheads Safely
By AcneAdvice
What are Blackheads?
Blackheads are a very stubborn form of an acne blemish. Blackheads are formed when a pore is clogged by excess sebum (skin oil). When dead skin cells block the way, sebum (skin oil) cannot flow properly and clogs the pore. When the oil is exposed to the air it oxidizes resulting into a dark color. Blackheads often appear where a hair follicle is clogged. There are many hair follicles on the nose, chin and for men on their cheeks.
Imbalanced hormones will cause excessive skin oil as well as reduce the skin's normal exfoliation process. Balancing your hormones will help you achieve the clear skin you have been looking for.
How to Safely Remove Blackheads
As you have probably noticed, blackheads do not go away from just washing your face. You need to remove the dead skin cells from your face by exfoliating as well as make sure that the pores are open. You will also want the blackheads to become soft so that it can easily be squeezed out. If there is an area on your face that there always seems to be blackheads then you will want to incorporate this into your regular cleaning routine a couple times a week.
Here is the proper process to safely remove your blackheads.
- Wet face with warm water and apply a exfoliating cleanser in circular motions. You will want to choose an exfoliator that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid will penetrate deeper into the pore lining. If you are sensitive to salicylic acid then choose an exfoliator with AHA ( alpha hydroxi acid). Rinse well and pat dry with a clean, soft cloth.
- Boil water and place into a lean sink. Place towel over your head and steam face for 5-10 minutes. Another option is to place a clean face cloth into warm water and put on the infected area for 5-10 minutes. Doing either of these options will open up the pores and soften the blackhead to prepare it to be easily removed.
- Take a tissue and place over your fingers. Gently squeeze the skin (with even pressure on both sides) until the blackhead comes out. The goal is to squeeze from underneath the blackhead. If you find that the blackhead is not easily coming out then repeat step 2.
Please make sure that you use a tissue over your finger for step 3 because it causes the fingers not to slip. If you use just your fingers you could harm your skin as well as put more bacteria on the area. By following this method you should keep your blackheads at a minimum.

Do nose strips work?
Nose strips are a very popular way of easily removing blackheads. They do work however they are not the best choice. The strip can harden too much making it hard to remove. They take off some of the good skin on the nose and results in more blackheads. I found when I used them it ripped out all of the hair off my nose and the the hair regrew thicker and darker. It did remove the blackheads easily, but after time I have more blackheads then before. The other method that I explained earlier has worked well and is used by skin specialists.
If you choose to use nose strips just be aware that the hair will get ripped out and come back thicker. Also like I said before, you will probably receive more blackheads then you had before in the future.
Tips to Prevent Blackheads From Forming
- Avoid using heavy, oily creams. The last thin you want is to add more oil to your skin.
- Exfoliate a couple times a week. Use an exfoliating cleanser that contains AHA or salicylic acid 1-2%.
- Use oil absorbing pads. Those can be purchased at any drug store/beauty shop.
- Have a regular cleansing routine.
- Balance your hormones. That is the best thing that can be done in achieving clear skin.
Please let me know what method you like the most and what works the best for you. I look forward to your feedback.
